Week 6

16 September

Stephen and I looked further for retaining wall options at Lehi Block. I must admit I am not fond of making such decisions, including the time it takes to view various options.

17 September

I thought this was a pretty cool reflection in the pharmacy window (and, yes, that is our car).

18 September

Cayelle came to visit and asked for some of my homemade whole wheat bread.

19 September

“I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” The sign outside our church building reminds me of this Primary song. And since today is a Sunday, it’s appropriate to note that as an active Latter-day Saint I attend three hours of meetings from 11 to 2 (Relief Society, Sunday School, and Sacrament meeting). Sometimes I’ll do Relief Society business as well, and sometimes (like today) I go back to the church for a fireside. The one I attended this evening was about Church service mission opportunities. I love being a member of the church!

20 September

Martha and Royce are the leaders for our empty nesters family home evening group that meets on the third Monday of each month. These two people are wonderful examples of service to others (going on a temple mission to Spain, serving as cubmasters, etc.). Our home evening was on ideas for blessing your grandchildren’s lives: pray for them, interact with them, watch out for loners in a group, send them mail, hug them, interview them, bear testimony to them, create incentives for them (for Eagles, etc.), and spend time with them.

21 September

On one of our Relief Society visits, Elizabeth and I were able to vist Leanna, who is here from Turkey with her husband. Leanna grew up in our ward, so it was nice to be able to visit with her.

22 September

Fall is in the air (it’s official)! This beautiful maple tree next door has a hint of the red leaves that will soon be falling all over our front lawn.

Week 5

9 September
Stephen’s dad turned 100 today (he is very pleasant and has retained his sense of humor)! Some dear friends posted a sign on his door: “Hello, my name is Dr. Marc. I am 100 years old today (September 9, 2010). I have dedicated my life to healing the sick, befriending those in need and bringing lost sheep unto the fold of our Heavenly Father!!! If you want to wish me a happy birthday, just sign the bottom of this paper. Thank you!!!” Happy Birthday, Dad!

10 September

My little munchkins performing their ritual cleansing of the drawers.

11 September

These cars are poised for a quick getaway after the evening stake conference meeting, which was about raising righteous families.

12 September

This past year I have become involved in indexing. Here is a birth record from Jamaica: Record 1534, 26 Jan 1915, Josiah (male), no father listed, mother Urselina Clark (a labourer).

13 September

Stephen took me to Granny’s in Heber to get a milk shake (I stuck with my favorite raspberry flavor--any berry will do). The umbrella over the table outside provided a colorful canopy.

14 September

The clouds were breathtaking this morning—what a beautiful world we live in!

15 September

I love these larger-than-life, brightly painted, cheery flowers at Sunflower Market. I try to shop there on Wednesdays to take advantage of sales—the past week and current week ads are all good on those days.

Week 4

2 September

We had such a great attendance at our first book group meeting for the year—these women are strong and faithful and add so much to my life.

3 September

I’m experimenting with taking pictures of the backs of flowers—another way of looking at the beauty of God’s creations.

4 September

Jonathan and Tine with two of their favorite nieces.

5 September

I could not choose just one picture on this busy, important day. Marc and Sarah and their boys were ready early for church. Cassius Ryan was blessed by his father today, and Kaleb was baptized by his father as well. Families are the greatest (we now number 23)!

6 September

A minor part of our picture-taking, memory-creating fest—thanks to Robert and Nancy.

7 September

Budding pianists Elijah, David John, and Maya.

8 September

The deadly duo (oh, just look at those innocent boys) managed to scatter lots of Opa’s papers—this is just part of the mess.

Week 3

Now that I'm getting into the third week of taking a picture each day, I'm trying to determine what my philosophy is with this project. I'm deciding it will represent a slice of my life (for this year)—beauty around me, people important to me, activities I engage in (rarely or often), something that I view in just a different way, or something that just strikes my fancy.

26 August

Yesterday afternoon I received a call from an individual wanting to know if he could get a copy of Nibley’s “A Stage without a Play.” It was a talk given in February 1977 at Westminster College. He had owned a copy but had loaned it to missionaries. He wanted a copy to help someone he was working with in Young Men. I had the talk listed in my bibliography, but Dan M. didn’t have it in any of his files. I finally called Rob back to let him know we were sorry but couldn’t help him. He said he had purchased a tape of that title some years back in the BYU Bookstore. I kept thinking in the back of mind that I had seen a tape with that title on it. I rummaged a bit more and finally found a file folder in my Nibley drawer with a tape bearing that title. I asked the secretary if they could transcribe it, which they were willing to do. But then I went back to that file folder in my office and actually found a hard copy of a transcript as well as a floppy disk. I took it to Elin (since I no longer have a computer that accepts floppy disks), and she was able to access the file on the disk and e-mail it to me. So before I left work, I was able to send Rob the text of the talk—our miracle for the day.

27 August

Our financial advisor, Ray, gives Stephen his traditional Snickers bar on our visit.

28 August

I went to the temple twice today—the first time I took pictures of the flowers and gardens and discovered the line for initiatories was too long. So I came back later to perform an endowment for Joanna Gaffeild, born about 1560, in Ivinghoe, Buckingham, England—she had to wait 450 years for her temple work to be done. I’m so grateful to be able to bless her life!

29 August

Bottles of Ensure in Dad's refrigerator door at Jamestown. He is thriving on Ensure, milk, and Oreo cookies! More pictures soon when he turns 100 on September 9.

30 August

I have retaining walls on my mind now, so on the way home from work, I screeched to a halt and backed up to take a picture of this wall (northwest of the temple on 930 East). I usually pass this particular wall on the way home from work (but not on the way to work because I often drive behind the temple on Iroquois and Temple View Drive).

31 August

Our Edgemont Fifth Ward Relief Society has served together for a year and a half—Becky, first counselor (education); me, president; Elizabeth, second counselor (Relief Society meetings); and Maren, secretary. I do so appreciate serving with these faithful sisters!

1 September

I have always loved the rainbow progression of colors, so I appreciate this presentation of possible paper colors available at the copy center (I took the BYU Women booklet in today to be printed—it will have a cheery solar yellow cover this year).
